When building a business from scratch, there’s reality to face: slow growth, the effort required for visibility, and the long‑term commitment needed to build something. Christina is in a good position to tackle that because, first and foremost, she loves what she does, which is helping ppl to address their needs. On the other hand, since it’s not a brick-and-mortar business but a flexible, independent model, she can invest time and energy in building genuine connections that better address people’s needs, which is a selling point in its own right.
I really appreciate that Christina is so open about the journey in creating her own path, even when it’s uncertain. For LGBT+ entrepreneurs (and anyone thinking about starting something of their own), there’s a practical mindset you should consider taking on: you don’t need everything figured out; you just need to start. Because the world itself changes and morphs over time, what could be considered a great way to operate may not be so great in 5 years. It’s normal to recognise that growth is gradual. If you read behind many “Overnight Success” stories, most of them had 10-30 years of prep before that moment, really.
Another good proof of why a slightly imperfect, flexible operational model is good for people in the personalised service space is that it allows you to pivot. In her case, data from operating in the US and Australian target markets showed that NZ is a good space to grow into. And based on the experiences so far, she’d know what she’s looking for during the NZ trip.
If I have to name a specific takeaway from my chats with Christina, it is that relationships can be one of the strongest assets, and inclusivity is a competitive edge.
We may not all know younger people of LGBT+ communities and their families, but it’s possible that someone you know may be beneficial to well-informed people like Christina. Meanwhile, pls keep forging your own paths proudly.
