Episode 18, #GetChatty About Your Local Businesses, Series 1
With the warmest welcome to Jane Libbis, Partner, Lawyer, & Co-Founder of Umbrella Family Law! I want to start by saying that learning about family law (e.g. separation, asset division, child custody, spousal maintenance, prenuptial agreements, etc.) is not about starting a fight or trouble in a relationship; it is about understanding where one stands, and the practical side of the relationship.
We talked about pet custody and what law space may change so a person’s beloved dog will not be treated like a fridge. (OK, Jane described it better than I do).
Please note that the information mentioned in this episode is not legal advice; if needed, please reach out to Jane and her team; let’s meet Jane!

I encourage you to visit their blog and IG to learn more about their work! Their blog contains very useful information and opportunities for mere mortals like many of us to learn about family laws.
My takeaways from recording this episode are about how much I like their active work in allyship:
- I like that they’re committed to inclusivity and client safety and make sure that everyone feels supported and understood, regardless of who they are.
- Their team has undergone training with the Equality Network to understand the complexities and terminologies of the community, and I think they’d be essential input to provide empathetic and community-appropriate support.
- In addition to legal services, they understand the emotional and practical issues that come with needing legal advice, and on top of other unique challenges the LGBT+ community may face.
