Episode 10, #GetChatty About Your Local Businesses, Series 2024

Steve, the Jet Lag Guy, was all set to launch his jet lag consultancy in early 2020. Well, we all knew what happened to everyone’s travel plans that year, but that didn’t stop him. He spent that time building an impressive ecosystem of services to help travellers conquer jet lag, and it’s about launch time!

This episode showcases Steve’s product-service ecosystem.

  • First, there’s the Jet Lag Book; Steve breaks scientific jargon into easy-to-understand language, so readers won’t need a scientific background to understand it.
  • Then, there’s the Jet Lag App, currently in the final stages of development. It tailors advice based on whether you’re a morning person or a night owl.
  • Additionally, Steve offers one-on-one consulting to provide customised jet lag solutions.
  • Steve introduced his locally invented and manufactured jet lag goggles, which emit light at a specific wavelength to stimulate receptors in the eyes. They help adjust the user’s internal clock and reset the body’s circadian rhythm by simulating daylight when crossing time zones, such as flying from Melbourne to London.

He then provided us with his 2024 Olympic medal outcomes, emphasising the impact of jet lag:

  • France and the UK are winners due to minimal time zone differences.
  • Australia and Japan are unlikely to shine on the medal count.
  • For the general public, Steve talks about a new app designed to help manage jet lag. The app calculates sleep schedules and provides customised advice based on a detailed pre-quiz.

As many marketers would, Arthur was drawn to the click-bait-friendly topic of Viagra and Jet Lag. Steve was involved in reporting research where Viagra was tested on hamsters for jet lag. The lead researchers were other scientists. Such research showed Viagra helped with eastbound travel but not westbound. This effect is linked to the drug’s interaction with an enzyme similar to the one in the eyes that affects vision.

Ultimately, Steve emphasises that using non-medical interventions like light therapy is safer than medication – that’s why he set up the Jet Lag Guy!
