Episode 11, #GetChatty About Your Local Businesses, Series 2024
In this episode of Get Chatty About Your Local Businesses, I’m super happy to interview JD Zamora, a multidisciplinary artist I met over 15 years ago from a completely different workspace (and head-space). It was so good to see the growth in both of us (he is a bit more than me, but I can’t complain!).

This is the first part of possibly three episodes. I had such a good time talking to JD, and we ended up with quite a sizeable recording. So, this episode is about JD’s origin story.
JD has enjoyed performing since a young age and has taken a somewhat traditional start with a degree in theatre and classical opera. However, this path in the arts wasn’t fulfilling enough for him, and chances led him to explore a career in event management.
After a decade+ stint in events, including a notable time with the City of Sydney (it’s notable because he met me lol), JD decided it was time for a change.
In our podcast, JD shares candid insights into his journey, discussing the challenges of breaking into comedy, the importance of self-acceptance, and the liberating power of humour.
My top 3 highlights in this episode:
- There’s power in authenticity; JD is an excellent example of how being true to oneself can lead to incredible opportunities and personal fulfilment.
- No matter when you start, reinvention is achievable, and if it’s something you’re passionate about, there’s a good potential for success and/or a sense of fulfilment.
- Something we both agree on is that humour is a great tool for owning our narrative and deflecting negativity. It is also great for connecting with others and navigating life’s challenges.
